Project Overview
The Old Town Alexandria Road Construction Project is a comprehensive initiative to improve the streets, sidewalks, and utility infrastructure throughout the historic Old Town district.
This phased project addresses the unique challenges of maintaining modern infrastructure while preserving the historic character of one of America's oldest and most well-preserved colonial cities.
Work includes repaving cobblestone streets, replacing aging water and sewer lines, improving accessibility features, enhancing stormwater management, and implementing traffic calming measures.

Phase 1: King Street Corridor
Improvements to the main commercial corridor including utility work and accessibility enhancements.
April 2024
Phase 2: Waterfront District
Infrastructure improvements near the Potomac River waterfront area.
July 2024
Phase 3: Residential Streets North
Work on residential streets in the northern section of Old Town.
October 2024
Phase 4: Residential Streets South
Work on residential streets in the southern section of Old Town.
December 2024
Final Inspections and Completion
